Major Karl Kmiecik is an Emergency Medicine physician and EMS & Disaster Medicine fellow at Brooke Army Medical Center. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in History and Science from Harvard University and a Doctor of Medicine from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine at Madigan Army Medical Center in 2017. His previous assignment was as the 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) Surgeon where he supervised 40 Special Forces Medics and oversaw the medical readiness of 500 Soldiers. He has deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Resolute Support. His research interests in EMS include: prolonged field care; CBRN mitigation; and tactical medicine.
