A New Face at CCEMS

Please extend a hearty welcome to the latest addition to the Cypress Creek Family, Dana Garcia. Dana is now in charge of community relations and will be handling all our major fundraising events including the FM 1960 St. Patrick’s Parade, BBQ Cook-Off, Comedy Night, and the Annual Golf Classic.

She comes to us with a wealth of experience.  Most recently, Dana was Director of Community Relations at the Montgomery County Women’s Center in Conroe and The Woodlands. That agency provides services to victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Her early career was in the hospitality industry where she was a Sales Manager with Wyndham Hotels at the historic Warwick Hotel (now Hotel Zaza), and Westin Hotels, in a Regional Sales Office and then at the Westin Galleria and Westin Oaks Hotels in the Galleria.

She also served as Meeting and Events Manager for Gulf States Toyota for half of her 13 years there where she was responsible for all meetings, events, incentive trips, and special projects.

Dana has worked in and around many different types and sizes of events. She has also worked on social events like galas and weddings, corporate events including large annual meetings with trade shows for 600+ people, incentive trips to Canada, Mexico, and throughout the U.S. for 50 to 150 people with golf tournaments and excursions, and new vehicle product launches.

While at Gulf States Toyota, Dana worked with the Governor’s office and Toyota executives announcing a new Toyota plant in San Antonio, and two milestone Anniversary events in Las Vegas for about 1000 people with headlining entertainment including Jay Leno, Lee Ann Womack, Brooks and Dunn, and George Strait; celebrity chefs: Cat Cora, Wolfgang Puck, and Iron Chef Morimoto; and comedians: Richard Jeni, John Pinette, and Jeff Dunham.

Dana has experienced and produced many different types of events in both the corporate and nonprofit worlds which gives her a broad base of understanding and knowledge. She welcomes collaboration and says she has learned “some of the best ideas are a combination of many which breed new ideas to attract and engage both existing and new sponsors.”

On the personal side, Dana attended Baylor and graduated from Our Lady of the Lake, San Antonio. Her husband, Lou, is a native Houstonian and her son, Devon, lives in Tomball.

Dana was born in Waco when her parents were at Baylor. She says her family moved every two years or so during her father’s career with Exxon. The locations included West Texas, New York, England, and Houston. She was also a foreign exchange student in Japan. The majority of her adult life has been spent in Houston.

In her spare time, she enjoys cooking (especially baking), long walks, yoga, and Pilates. Recently, Dana took up pickleball which she describes as “a fun game which is a cross between badminton, tennis and ping pong.”
