The Paramedic Academy is off and running, although day one wasn’t held at the CCEMS Edcuation Center due to the Tactical EMS Class that is going on all this week. So, the Paramedic Class held its first session in a classroom at the Klein Fire Department Administration Building on Squryes Road. Thanks to our friends at Klein for accomodating us.
The new class has 25 students. Of that, 16 are currently employed as EMTs at CCEMS and will work the same shift to accommodate their class and clinical schedule. Of the other students one is a former employee and two are with other emergency agencies. Most of the rest are working in various hospital positions. The students were selected from a list of 115 applicants.
Eight students are the recipients of scholarships. The class will graduate about this time next year. The CCEMS Paramedic Program is the only accredited standalone program in Texas and is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) and has also achieved CoA/CAAHEP accreditation (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs).
The principal instructors are Samuel Kordik and Rob Atripaldi, who was awarded Texas EMS Educator of the Year in 2016.
