On National Stop The Bleed day (March 31) and during the week leading up to it, Cypress Creek EMS has scheduled multiple classes at various hours of the day to teach as many people as possible how to control severe bleeding and save lives. Scroll down for class dates and times and links to sign up online.
Since a person with a severe arterial injury can bleed out and die in as little as three minutes, the key to saving more people injured in a shooting, stabbing, car wreck, home or industrial accident is having someone on the scene who can help while help in on the way or in the case of a mass shooting until help can get to you. Until help arrives, you ARE the help. Bleeding out is the top preventable cause of traumatic death. It’s estimated that 20 to 30 percent of the people who are dying could be saved with earlier intervention.
The National Stop The Bleed initiative was started by the American College of Surgeons and the Hartford Consensus which studied how to save more people in a mass casualty event like the Sandy Hook Elementary School Massacre. Stop The Bleed is endorsed by the White House and the Department of Homeland Security.
At Cypress Creek EMS, we had been teaching the same bleeding control techniques to other first responders (Firefighters and Police) for at least 3 years before the Stop The Bleed program was born. We also teach school district nurses, police officers, coaches, and other personnel.
Now, under that initiative, we are also teaching the public. The statewide coordinator for National Stop the Bleed Day in Texas is CCEMS Special Operations Director Wren Nealy.
The class lasts two hours and includes learning the proper use of modern tourniqets on yourself and others, wound packing and the methodology behind bleeding control. The classes below each have limited seating, so please sign up only if you definitely plan to attend. Please, be aware that the presentation includes some graphic imagesof the types of injuries for which this training is designed. With that in mind, we have set a lowerage limit of 14. All of the classes will be held at the CCEMS Education Center at 7111 Five Forks, Spring, TX. 77379.
Our goal, is to train as many people as possible and we beleive we will be able to train more than 1,000 folks. To see what the public class is like cllick here.
