CCEMS Promotes Safe Ride/Walk to School

October 4, 2017 – Before the sun came up this morning, CCEMS Bike Medics along with Bike officers and patrol officers from the Klein ISD Police Department, Harris County Sheriff’s Office District 1 and Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office gathered at Cypress Creek EMS to be briefed on a special operation. October 4 is National Safe Ride/Walk to School Day, so CCEMS spearheaded a safety education initiative in the Klein School District for bike riders and walkers. Over a two-day period (Oct 4 & 5) CCEMS Bike Medics, Bike Officers and Patrol Officers are visiting the neighborhoods surrounding 30 Klein schools within the CCEMS territory to reach students walking and riding to school both in the morning and afternoon. All the agencies were involved in the planning. The morning briefing was done by CCEMS Special Operations Director Wren Nealy.

The idea of the safety education event is that the bike medics and officers write tickets rewarding good safety behavior and pointing out areas that need improvement. All the kids received coupons from H-E-B, McDonald’s, Wolfie’s Kids Menu and Chill. Dunkin Donuts and Chick-Fil-A supplied gift cards and one of the Chick-Fil-A cows showed up at Theiss Elementary School. The Klein Fire Department donated pencils and band-aids for the kids.

Thanks to ALL of our sponsors for helping make it a successful operation that we hope helps prevent accidents.

Here are some pictures of the first morning operation starting with the briefing and including pictures from Theiss and Keunhle Elementary Schools, Doerre Intermediate School and the surrounding neighborhoods.
