Blood Drive Supports Lifesaving CCEMS Program

On August 24, 2016, Cypress Creek became the only standalone ground EMS system in the country to carry blood products in the field for transfusion 24/7/365. We joined ESD 48 which piloted the program and is the only Fire Department EMS system in the country carrying blood products around the clock.  (See the CCEMS program results below) The universal blood we use, O negative,  is fairly rare. Only about 7% of the population has that type. O positive is another universal type, but all types are always needed.

On the First Anniversary of our life-saving blood program, CCEMS is holding a Blood Drive to help increase supplies of the blood products we use in the field. The Blood Drive is being held on August 25th from 2:30 to 7 pm in the Charles R. Hooks Education Center on our campus at 7111 Five Forks, Spring (77379).

In the year since the CCEMS blood program began, Cypress Creek EMS has administered 125 units of blood products to 68 patients. A little over half of those patients, were bleeding severely due to medical reasons such as gastrointestinal bleeding. The rest were due to trauma. Here’s the breakdown.

So, help support our lifesaving efforts by signing up today to donate blood. See you on August 25th. Here’s the link again.

If you need another reason to give, there’s a pint of Blue Bell Ice Cream in it for you. Those who attempt to donate will receive a voucher for a pint. It’s a PINT FOR A PINT.
