It took a while but Station 513 in Springwoods Village near ExxonMobil is finally open. Really! No kidding. We definitely mean it, this time. (See actual proof at the bottom – pictures show ambulance in bay and “red shirts” adapting to their new habitat)
Medic 513’s crews hit the streets back on October 4th, working out of Station 51 in Ponderosa. October was the original estimate for when the new Station 513 might be open. Heavy spring rains pushed that back. Then there were delays in getting permanent power hooked up at the station and other assorted issues. November became December and the new year started with uncertainty on when 513 might finally be open.
Now we know the answer. February 18, 2016.
Station 513 is co-located with Spring Fire Department’s Station 70. Spring is at 22306 Springwoods Village Parkway and we are at 22310.
Here’s a little photo tour of the new station. Click on pictures for larger view.
For those of you who need proof that the long awaited station is really open, here are pictures taken at shift change the morning of February 19, 2016. One of the first medics to sleep here was Station Captain Mark Villarreal.
The stations both have cool bi-fold doors that open much faster than traditional garage doors. In this video we hit the open button on both the bi-folds in the front and the traditional garage door at the back of the bay to show you how much faster the bi-folds are.
