Cypress Creek Confusion

There seems to be some confusion over Cypress Creek EMS and Cypress Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Apparently, some folks think we are one in the same even though our logos look nothing alike.

CCLogosThis even finds its way into news reports. We’ll have an ambulance at a fire as a precaution and the news media will report that Cypress Creek Volunteer Fire Department was also there, even though they weren’t.

There are eight fire departments operating within the Cypress Creek EMS service area. They all stand ready to help their neighboring departments, so it’s not unusual to see 3 or 4 departments at the scene of a fire. Many times that includes Cypress Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Many, but not all.

Cypress Creek EMS is always there just in case a firefighter or bystander is injured. Cypress Creek Volunteer Fire Department helps out whenever asked by a neighboring department but, again, that department is not present at every fire in North Harris County, even though news reports sometimes make it seem that way.

Here are a few simple points to remember.

• Cypress Creek EMS and Cypress Creek Volunteer Fire Department ARE NOT the same.

• We are separate entities. If Cypress Creek EMS is at a fire, Cypress Creek Volunteer Fire Department MAY or MAY NOT be there.

• Cypress Creek EMS was founded in 1975 and covers a 177 square mile area. And yeah, it’s our 40th Birthday (2015). Our primary purpose is Emergency Medical Services.

• Cypress Creek Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1976 and covers approximately 35 square miles. It’s their 40th Birthday next year (2016). Their primary purpose is firefighting and rescue.

• Cypress Creek Volunteer Fire Department is one of 8 fire departments that operate within the Cypress Creek EMS service area.

• Cypress Creek EMS handles 9-1-1 calls and dispatch for seven of those fire departments and several other emergency agencies (16 total).

• Cypress Creek EMS and Cypress Creek Volunteer Fire Department have one thing in common. We both hate it when the news media shortens our name to Cy-Creek. That may work for the folks over in Cy-Fair, but over here we DO NOT like it. So, please don’t do that. It makes employees at both agencies cringe. Of course, we cringe separately seeing as how we are separate agencies and all.

And Finally, One More Time for Emphasis.
